Design Q&A

A Design QA may include a number of activities depending on which standards or guidelines the system needs to or should be adhering to.

Examples include:

  • Accessibility Inspection: a review against accessibility guidelines such as WCAG 2.0.
  • Consistency Review: a review against other applications provided by the organisation.
  • Brand and Style Guide Review: a review against existing Brand or Style Guidelines.
  • Heuristic Evaluation: a task based review against an agreed set of usability guidelines and design principles.

What it provides:

The purpose of the Design Q&A is to test the compliance of an interface against internal and external quality guidelines and standards. An inspection will provide a list of findings highlighting where the interface does not comply and may also provide recommendations for how compliance can be achieved.

Accessibility is a legal requirement for most applications, while branding and usability increase revenues and reduce costs. If an application is to be developed and to be widely used, inspecting the quality of the experience should be a priority.
